Broadcasters say Honda upgrade worth half-a-second

Honda’s new power unit is understood by paddock folk to be quite powerful.

Sky Sports F1 broadcasters have suggested Honda’s new power unit for this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix could be worth half-a-second – or even six tenths.

Sky Sports F1’s Johnny Herbert, Paul di Resta, and Simon Lazenby discussed the apparent rumour moments before FP1. 

Herbert said the update is a “good indication” for Red Bull, who will run Honda engines in 2019. 

Honda Technical Director Toyoharu Tanabe is hoping for a “really strong race in front of our home fans.”
