Bottas says Mercedes drivers “free to fight”

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas claimed immediately after qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix that he’ll be allowed to fight Lewis Hamilton on Sunday.

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas says he’ll be free to race his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix

Speaking to Paul di Resta directly after Mercedes locked out the front row in qualifying, Bottas said he’ll be “free to fight” with teammate Hamilton – who currently leads Formula 1’s Drivers Championship. 

Bottas was controversially handed a team order in last week’s German Grand Prix as the team were worried about wet conditions and didn’t want to risk an incident. 

In Spain and Austria during the 2016 season, Mercedes had issues with then-teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg colliding with each other and losing points for the team.
