Sebastian Vettel was audibly in tears just moments after the crash that ended his German Grand Prix.

The World Championship and race leader locked up and went deep at Turn 12 on lap 52 of his home Grand Prix.

In a radio message broadcast on live TV moments after the crash, Vettel swore twice with audible trembling in his voice before apologising to his team.

The safety-car was deployed for the incident whilst Vettel could be seen pounding his steering wheel in frustration.

The mistake allowed Lewis Hamilton to swoop in and take the race lead, leading to a stunning Grand Prix victory from his P14 start.

However, Mercedes has faced criticism over their decision to use a team order in the dying laps.
