Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel has been left unable to explain why he lost pole position to Lewis Hamilton in the dying stages of British Grand Prix qualifying.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel says he lost time during his final lap in Q3 on Silverstone’s straights and he doesn’t know why.

Vettel was “happy” with his first Q3 lap, which left him in P1, but Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton would later beat Vettel to pole position by just 0.044s.

“I don’t know why [the loss of time] happened, otherwise pole would have been there,” Vettel said.

Despite finishing in P2, Vettel is still confident and said this year’s car is quicker at the Brtish Grand Prix than last year’s.
