Sebastian Vettel will take a three-place grid penalty for the Austrian Grand Prix after impeding Renault’s Carlos Sainz during the second qualifying session.

Vettel, who is now set to start P6, said he slowed down into Turn 1 after a hot lap, but couldn’t see Sainz approaching in his mirrors and hadn’t been informed through the radio.

“You can’t see well straight back in the mirrors, with the rear wing and everything,” Vettel said.

He was sorry for Sainz and explained that there were no deliberate intentions in the action of slowing down.
