Upgraded Mercedes leads the way in Austria FP1

Lewis Hamilton topped the first practice session for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix in his upgraded Mercedes.

Mercedes’ upgraded package for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix appears to be working effectively after the Silver Arrows finished 1st and 2nd in FP1.

Lewis Hamilton, who was hoping to “frighten” rivals with the new upgrades, led team-mate Valtteri Bottas by a tenth of a second in the ninety-minute practice session.

This weekend, the defending Constructors Champions have a raft of aerodynamic upgrades around the sidepods, barge boards, and rear wing – which complement the team’s new PU introduced in last week’s French Grand Prix.

Hamilton said it was “great to see” new upgrades whilst Sky Sports F1 commentator Martin Brundle said they make the car look like a B-spec.
