The rising 19 year old and Manor Racing debutant, Esteban Ocon, has voiced on Twitter that his target in Saturday’s Belgium Grand Prix qualifying will be to sneak into Q2.

Ocon published the above tweet after the Friday practice sessions yesterday. He would finish the two sessions in 16th and 21st respectively. Unlike some other debutant drivers, Ocon has had previous on track Formula One experience through his third driver role at Renault Sport.
He found himself on debut this weekend after Manor Racing dropped Rio Haryanto over the summer break due to issues with his funding. It’s thought Ocon received the seat following his strong association with Mercedes-Benz, the engine suppliers to Manor Racing.
It appears Ocon considers the sessions a success because his goals have changed substantially. Ahead of the weekend, Ocon was humbled in simply just wanting “to do a good job of getting to know the car, my crew, the whole team and have a really good weekend, as something to build on.” Today’s tweet shows his hunger too further impress this weekend.
Ocon will return to the track for FP3 and qualifying in just a few hours.
